On April 30, SNC announced that Vindlér 2.0, its small satellite constellation launched in March 2026, is demonstrating strong on-orbit performance and delivering early mission success. The launch marks SNC’s second major investment in expanding its Vindlér architecture, transitioning from microsatellites to significantly more capable small satellites to increase radio frequency (RF) data tracking capability and bandwidth in low-Earth orbit (LEO).

Vindlér detects and geo-locates targeted RF emissions, enabling operators to identify and track items of interest for enhanced situational awareness and decision making in complex environments. The technology is specifically designed to address a growing national security and commercial need for timely, precise RF data.

In partnership with Muon Space, SNC launched three satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base on SpaceX’s Transporter-16 rideshare mission last month. SNC continued working closely with the space systems provider to conduct satellite tracking, initiate orbital maneuvering and confirm full payload aliveness within 30 days of launch. SNC also confirmed it has successfully tasked all payload collections and begun data delivery—continuing the company’s long-established leadership in providing digital RF solutions and data streaming directly to the warfighter.

“We are excited that our Vindlér 2.0 design is already proving to be successful,” said Lisa Godenick, senior vice president of strategy at SNC. “This architecture enables the military to receive critical data from space within minutes, anywhere around the world. At a time where speed is relevance and information is dominance, SNC is continuously investing in ways to improve the quality and speed of our data.”

Leveraging a more than 60-year legacy of RF, electronic warfare systems and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance solutions, SNC’s Vindlér technology can simultaneously detect a wide range of emitters from VHF to Ka-band with high accuracy and throughputs rivaling or exceeding entire competitor constellations. Critical applications include GPS jamming and spoofing detection, maritime domain awareness, dark vessel tracking and more in support of national security efforts. This technology is particularly critical when evaluating operations in contested or denied access environments.

SNC is now advancing designs for future Vindlér launches, with a focus on strengthening data fidelity, accuracy and mission resilience. Over the next several years, the company plans to increase the constellation to more than 20 satellites, all of which will collect additional RF bands and provide multiple revisits throughout the day.

On March 23, Contrivian announced that it has launched Contrivian Constellation, an industry-first unified multi-constellation connectivity solution that operates multiple Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks as a single service. Customers consume Constellation as one service with one data plan, one IP address, one contract, and one support model.

Contrivian Constellation dynamically orchestrates traffic across Starlink, Amazon Leo, and other satellite systems in real time, operating as a unified connectivity layer across multiple satellite networks. Constellation ensures continuous connectivity even during network congestion, degradation, or full network outages. It is powered by proprietary software that eliminates both single-constellation dependency and multi-provider operational complexity.

On March 24, the National Security Agency (NSA) joined the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD’s ACSC) in collaboration with the Australian Space Agency and others in releasing the Cybersecurity Information Sheet (CSI), “Securing space: Cyber security for low earth orbit satellite communications.”

The report highlights high-level cybersecurity risks and mitigation strategies for users of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication (SATCOM) systems. The risks and mitigations are detailed through the lens of the space segment comprising the satellites themselves; the ground segment encompassing satellite control centers, ground stations, gateways, and user terminals; the user segment that includes end-user devices, applications, and associated interfaces that connect to LEO SATCOM services; and the communication links and broader supply chain for LEO SATCOM systems.

The CSI suggests numerous mitigation strategies for the space segment and legacy space equipment, including implementing tailored security measures, and using frequency-hopping signals, redundant communication paths, and anti-jam antennas. For the ground segment, continuous monitoring and anomaly detection are essential. The user segment should focus on strengthening endpoint security and enforcing secure access practices.

The report also provides frameworks for maintaining the resilience of critical networks, while offering valuable insights and guidelines for users to understand their roles and responsibilities in securing LEO SATCOM systems.

LEO SATCOM systems improve network resilience and enable emergency communications across both government and private sectors; however, as LEO satellite constellations grow, the attack surface open to adversaries increases, significantly increasing the risk to the system if the correct cybersecurity measures are not applied.

In LEO SATCOM networks, Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability — known as the CIA triad — are critical to maintaining secure and reliable operations. LEO SATCOM systems face unique challenges due to their distributed architecture and limited physical access to space-based assets. They also rely on radio frequency links that are susceptible to jamming, spoofing, and interception.

Organizations that use LEO SATCOM services are encouraged to review this guidance and adopt the outlined cybersecurity mitigations.

Other agencies co-sealing this CSI are the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (Cyber Centre), New Zealand National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC-NZ), and Australian Space Agency.

On August 5, Globalstar and Parsons Corporation announced a significant step toward commercial availability of a joint solution that integrates Globalstar’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite capabilities with Parsons’ advanced software-defined communication technologies. This collaborative effort marks the successful completion of a proof of concept conducted across three European ground stations, which validated performance and operational readiness for real-world deployment.

The successful demonstration represents a significant step forward in the strategic partnership between Globalstar and Parsons, moving the opportunity into the commercial phase.

On April 7, L3Harris Technologies and Kuiper Government Solutions LLC (KGS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. announced that they have partnered to deliver integrated, resilient Satellite Communications (SATCOM) solutions to governments and militaries worldwide.

The collaboration will focus on innovating and delivering hybrid SATCOM with high-speed and low-latency global connectivity. L3Harris will pair its trusted and resilient global tactical networks and comprehensive communication system technology with KGS’ global satellite network.

On April 2, Slingshot Aerospace, Inc. announced it has been selected by AFWERX to support its Rapid Analysis of Photometric Tracks for space Object identification and behavior Recognition program. Under RAPTOR, Slingshot will use machine learning to track, analyze and report on behaviors of objects in low Earth orbit.

Initially RAPTOR will be used to track and maintain custody of space objects of interest to U.S. Space Command, enabling timely reporting on events that could indicate an imminent satellite maneuver or mission change.

“Protecting our national interests demands the utmost focus on maintaining dominance and situational awareness in the space domain,” said Tim Solms, CEO of Slingshot Aerospace. “The Department of Defense must achieve comprehensive visibility and intelligence on covert and adversarial activities in space. RAPTOR delivers unparalleled awareness to safeguard critical assets, strengthen mission readiness, and uphold the security of our nation and its allies.”

Vast amounts of photometric data from the Slingshot Global Sensor Network create digital signatures of space objects in LEO that Slingshot can identify, track, profile and analyze. This photometric fingerprinting provides defense and intelligence agencies with a new set of tools to unlock applications.

Slingshot currently maintains a catalog of approximately 14,500 active spacecraft and debris with its globally deployed network of optical sensors, which generate more than 4.5 million photometric observations each night. When analyzed the resulting “light curves” create a unique digital fingerprint for each space object that can be fed into Slingshot’s Agatha AI model to identify changes like shifts in an object’s orientation in space or its photometric signature.

“Establishing a comprehensive fingerprint database for all objects in orbit enables us to precisely identify an object’s nature and infer its potential mission objectives,” said Dr. Dylan Kesler, vice president of data science, Slingshot Aerospace. “By applying machine learning across our network, we can identify unexpected behavior and use those insights to support our partners’ defense missions.”

On March 11, Amentum announced that it is partnering with Rivada Space Networks to offer a unique, ultra-secure low earth orbit connectivity network to support mission-critical U.S. government communications around the globe.

As the first unified global communications network, Rivada’s Outernet is transformative. A global low-latency point-to-point network of 600 low earth orbit (LEO) satellites, it is a unique next-generation constellation combining inter-satellite laser links with advanced onboard processing and routing to create a ubiquitous optical mesh network in space. This “orbital network,” in which data stays in space from origin to destination, creates an ultra-secure satellite network with pole-to-pole coverage, offering end-to-end latencies much lower than terrestrial fiber over long distances. And by routing traffic on a physically separated network in space, it provides a layer of defense for any organization that needs to share data securely between widely distributed sites.

On February 27, the Aerospace Corporation announced that it has achieved a milestone in small satellite innovation by successfully demonstrating the first optical crosslink between a pair of 6-unit CubeSats in low-Earth orbit (LEO). This breakthrough, named Flashlight Laser Crosslink, enables small satellites to operate collaboratively in formations, unlocking new possibilities for commercial and government missions, the company said.

“In 2018, our engineers successfully demonstrated a one-way laser transmission to a surface station using CubeSats. Now, we’ve advanced that capability by miniaturizing laser and receiver targeting mechanisms to establish a bi-directional link between CubeSats—reducing power demands and costs for future missions,” said Steve Isakowitz, Aerospace president and CEO. “This level of miniaturization presents challenges industry has yet to tackle at scale. Aerospace is bridging that gap, working closely with industry to transition this technology for commercial and government use.”

The demonstration used primarily commercial off the shelf parts and a 2.5-unit laser communication terminal to perform bi-directional data transfer between two CubeSats, smaller than toaster ovens, at distances of up to 348 miles (560 kilometers). Data rates of 312.5 megabits per second (Mbps) uncorrected were achieved, and error free transmission at 25 Mbps. Independent steering of the transmitter and receiver enable automatic, active alignment, maintaining connectivity over long distances. The successful test highlights Aerospace’s role in advancing technology that enables the commercial market to build better, more capable systems. By leveraging decades of expertise, Aerospace is paving the way for industry partners to deploy innovative satellite constellations that meet the increasing demands of data-driven applications, according to the company.

“The Flashlight Laser Crosslink drastically enhances communication between small satellites, providing them with robust, high-speed data transfer capabilities once limited to larger, more expensive platforms,” said Todd Rose, the mission’s lead. “By bringing high-speed optical communication to CubeSats, we can empower commercial operators to deploy more efficient systems, bridging the gap between affordability and performance.”
