Under this follow-on award, Vantor delivers and operates GEGD Pro, a secure, web-based geospatial intelligence platform that leverages Vantor’s Tensorglobe software suite. Designed exclusively for NGA as the primary commercial GEOINT platform for the U.S. government, GEGD Pro provides secure access to commercial and government furnished GEOINT content for more than 1.2 million government users across 250+ organizations.

GEGD Pro is a source-agnostic platform that integrates multiple geospatial data sources, including digital maps, refined persistent change model data, and other derived products. It also enables secure viewing, streaming, and analysis of petabyte-scale datasets, including commercial electro-optical, radar, and other NGA-procured data—a scale unmatched by other hosting platforms.

While GEGD Pro is NGA-specific, Vantor can configure its Tensorglobe spatial intelligence platform to serve as a foundation for other government and large enterprise programs. With this award, Maxar will continue providing more than 400,000 U.S. government users with unclassified, online and offline, on-demand access to high-resolution commercial imagery. Access to geospatial data and products from other commercial industry providers such as BlackSky and Planet Labs PBC are also available through the Electro-Optical Commercial Layer contract. Since 2011, the G-EGD program has enabled warfighters, first responders, intelligence analysts and civil government users to tap into Maxar’s 125 petabyte imagery archive and daily imagery collections for time-sensitive, mission-critical planning and operations.

“G-EGD has been instrumental in enabling NGA to provide unclassified access to satellite imagery for a wide range of U.S. government users and partners throughout the war in Ukraine,” said Dan Jablonsky, Maxar president and chief executive officer. “As the provider of G-EGD, Maxar is proud to help advance the U.S. government’s long history of providing global security and humanitarian initiatives with geospatial data and imagery.”

During G-EGD Option Year 2, NGA developed a roadmap to integrate five commercial synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data providers into the G-EGD platform by the end of 2023. To date, Maxar has developed ingest solutions for SAR data from Capella Space and ICEYE, to include data visualization and complete product discovery and delivery methods. Maxar will continue data integration efforts for Umbra and PredaSAR, a Terran Orbital Company, throughout Option Year 3.

The G-EGD system, first introduced in 2011, consisted of only of imagery from Maxar Technologies, formerly DigitalGlobe. The addition of Planet Federal and BlackSky Global data represents the first time that small satellite imagery has been integrated into the delivery system.

“By incorporating this new plethora of commercial data from small satellites into the G-EGD system, our users have access to thousands of new images and terabits of additional geospatial data to aid them in their respective mission objectives,” said Juan Sainz, NGA chief, commercial mission integration.

The G-EGD system provides access to map-ready, unclassified imagery to support a wide range of efforts for the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, federal civilian agencies and over 55 foreign partners.

G-EGD has recently been leveraged by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Center for Disease Control and other emergency management and health organizations who are using geospatial information to aid in COVID-19 response efforts.

“We’ve seen a significant increase in new users and over 100% increase in usage during the COVID-19 pandemic by CDC and other international health groups,” said Sainz. “It’s more important than ever to provide commercial geospatial data to those who need it, and making small satellite data available is helping us do that.”
