On May 12, iDirect Government (iDirectGov), a provider of satellite communications to the military and government, announced the release of the 450 Rackmount (RM) software-defined modem (SDM) that delivers resilient and secure connectivity across theatres, airspace and all mission phases.

The 450RM operates on iDirectGov’s Evolution Defense, Viasat GX, SES Flex and DVB-S2X networks, as well as the military-standard 188/165B Enhanced Bandwidth Efficient Modem (EBEM). It supports operations across geostationary (GEO), highly elliptical (HEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations, while maintaining the highest security standards.

Designed for space-constricted environments, the half-rack unit allows two 450RMs to be mounted side-by-side in the rack, minimizing rack space requirements while providing a protected, durable form factor.

“The 450RM is resilient, secure and flexible to suit our troops’ satellite communications at the tactical edge,” said Tim Winter, iDirectGov president. “Its multi-technology architecture delivers optimized performance and efficient operations.”

The 450RM is powered by the 4‑Series SDM architecture, which integrates iDirectGov’s Communication Signal Interference Removal (CSIR) technology and a Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS)-140-3 Level 3 approved Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Cryptographic engine for secure, resilient communications. This architecture enables a TRANSEC‑compliant network design that exceeds U.S. government standards and delivers high‑quality voice, video and data across contested environments.

On April 30, York Space Systems (York) announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire ALL.SPACE, a leading provider of advanced satellite communications terminals and multi-network connectivity solutions. Upon closing of the transaction, ALL.SPACE will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of York, continuing to serve customers across the broader industry.

On April 30, SNC announced that Vindlér 2.0, its small satellite constellation launched in March 2026, is demonstrating strong on-orbit performance and delivering early mission success. The launch marks SNC’s second major investment in expanding its Vindlér architecture, transitioning from microsatellites to significantly more capable small satellites to increase radio frequency (RF) data tracking capability and bandwidth in low-Earth orbit (LEO).

Vindlér detects and geo-locates targeted RF emissions, enabling operators to identify and track items of interest for enhanced situational awareness and decision making in complex environments. The technology is specifically designed to address a growing national security and commercial need for timely, precise RF data.

In partnership with Muon Space, SNC launched three satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base on SpaceX’s Transporter-16 rideshare mission last month. SNC continued working closely with the space systems provider to conduct satellite tracking, initiate orbital maneuvering and confirm full payload aliveness within 30 days of launch. SNC also confirmed it has successfully tasked all payload collections and begun data delivery—continuing the company’s long-established leadership in providing digital RF solutions and data streaming directly to the warfighter.

“We are excited that our Vindlér 2.0 design is already proving to be successful,” said Lisa Godenick, senior vice president of strategy at SNC. “This architecture enables the military to receive critical data from space within minutes, anywhere around the world. At a time where speed is relevance and information is dominance, SNC is continuously investing in ways to improve the quality and speed of our data.”

Leveraging a more than 60-year legacy of RF, electronic warfare systems and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance solutions, SNC’s Vindlér technology can simultaneously detect a wide range of emitters from VHF to Ka-band with high accuracy and throughputs rivaling or exceeding entire competitor constellations. Critical applications include GPS jamming and spoofing detection, maritime domain awareness, dark vessel tracking and more in support of national security efforts. This technology is particularly critical when evaluating operations in contested or denied access environments.

SNC is now advancing designs for future Vindlér launches, with a focus on strengthening data fidelity, accuracy and mission resilience. Over the next several years, the company plans to increase the constellation to more than 20 satellites, all of which will collect additional RF bands and provide multiple revisits throughout the day.

On April 22, BlackSky Technology Inc. announced that it won a competitive $25 million, multi-year Assured contract with a major international defense customer. The new subscription deal accelerates the customer’s national space capabilities while serving the needs of multiple operational branches with guaranteed access to best-in-class 35-centimeter Gen-3 imagery with real-time AI-enabled analytics, the company said.

“The proven operational performance of our 35-centimeter Gen-3 satellites is driving long-term commitments from major government customers that require mission critical intelligence from an industry-leading space-based intelligence platform,” said Brian O’Toole, BlackSky CEO. “With four Gen-3 satellites on orbit, BlackSky is now rapidly deploying Gen-3 capacity and driving up backlog and annual recurring revenue from our high margin space-based intelligence and AI services business.”

The agreement will leverage BlackSky’s Spectra capabilities and the Gen-3 constellation in support of the customer’s strategic and tactical maritime domain awareness mission applications. This customer has quickly incorporated capacity from BlackSky’s most recent Gen-3 satellite, which rapidly commissioned in less than a week following launch last month. With four Gen-3 satellites now on orbit, BlackSky has opened general availability to its global customer base.

“This Early Access Gen-3 On-Demand customer transitioned to a new, multi-year Assured contract after validating BlackSky’s ability to provide committed capacity over their region of interest with reliable, low-latency mission-critical imagery and analytics,” O’Toole said. “Through this partnership, BlackSky continues to successfully execute our land-and-expand strategy and is committed to providing our customers unparalleled strategic and tactical situational awareness at industry-leading speed, scale and economics.”

Assured services enable guaranteed access and priority tasking capacity through BlackSky’s proprietary, dynamic monitoring constellation over the customer’s national and regional areas of interest. Assured is also the first commercially available imagery and analytics tasking service to offer guaranteed collection commitments. With the improved image clarity of Gen-3, BlackSky’s proprietary AI algorithms automate identification and classification of an expanded set of vehicles, aircraft, vessels and other objects of tactical relevance at machine speed.

On April 13, Lockheed Martin announced that it is leading a Next-Generation Space Dominance (NGSD) initiative, a low-cost, modular spacecraft designed to give customers the speed, flexibility and cost efficiency needed to succeed in an increasingly crowded and dynamic orbital environment. The company has invested more than $500M in standardizing small and medium bus architectures and, for NGSD, will continue with significant investments in the bus and rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) technology – translating the company’s own capital into a plug-and-play platform that can be fielded, customized and scaled on a schedule that matches any mission’s urgency.

This satellite platform is offered in two common-core variants, both supporting autonomous RPO and interchangeable payload units for any mission profile. NGSD Vanguard offers the lowest cost solution, delivering the same RPO capability in a compact, high-throughput package ideal for shorter missions or rapidly refreshed constellations. NGSD Sentinel leverages the same common architecture but adds a larger power budget, higher performance propulsion and optional refueling to support enduring missions. Both variants share a common core while providing mission-specific performance through modular payload integration.

“Our customers are not always able to wait years for custom-made satellites. They want proven, production-ready capability that can be delivered on a deadline that aligns with the operational timeline of their mission,” said Tim Lynch, mission strategy and advanced capabilities vice president, Lockheed Martin Space. “NGSD is our answer. It’s a light, lean, agile platform that delivers the performance of a heritage spacecraft while eliminating the bottlenecks that have traditionally slowed the industry.”

“From civil science to national security constellations, NGSD brings the principles of Dynamic Space Operations (DSO) into a scalable, production-ready satellite bus platform for Space Domain Awareness and a wide range of civil, commercial and defense missions,” added Peter Krauss, CEO, Terran Orbital. “It enables faster deployment, reduces risk and delivers a more cost-effective path to orbit at the scale our customers need.”

On April 13, Deloitte announced that two new satellites, Deloitte-2 and Deloitte-3, launched on March 29, 2026, from Vandenberg Space Force Base to expand Deloitte’s on-orbit footprint. The new satellites carry payloads designed to increase space data collection capacity and help meet clients’ growing needs for space-based data and insights.

Project Constellation enables the engineering and testing of a software-only, on-orbit cyber defense capability designed to be deployed to satellites already in orbit and to improve the cyber resiliency of legacy satellites. Deloitte-1 launched in March 2025 and has traveled more than 150-million miles providing flight heritage for Deloitte’s on-orbit cyber defense capability, Silent Shield.

Government agencies and commercial clients rely on space for daily communications, navigation and monitoring. As that reliance grows, they require fresh data from orbiting satellites that are secure and dependable. Through Project Constellation, Deloitte is expanding space data capacity and engineering mission-specific payloads to deliver on-orbit cyber protections. A key advantage is delivering software-defined cyber defense and analytics upgrades in orbit, helping extend the resilience of existing satellite fleets without waiting for a new launch. This client-first, mission-driven approach aims to meet the growing need for space-based data insights and resilient on-orbit cyber protections, while further strengthening Deloitte’s presence across testing, engineering, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), data and cyber.

On April 9, Vantor announced plans to expand its satellite constellation and create the first commercial space-based system combining accurate, high-resolution imaging with real-time global monitoring—empowering government and commercial customers to generate intelligence and power tactical operations at unprecedented speed and scale.

For decades, space-based intelligence has forced a tradeoff: you could either see the world in high detail or monitor it continuously, but not both. This expansion to Vantor’s constellation, which already delivers the most accurate and high-resolution imagery on orbit, eliminates that tradeoff for the first time.

These new satellites, Vantor Vantage and Vantor Pulse, build on the success of Vantor’s state-of-the-art WorldView Legion program, which doubled collection capacity, introduced dawn-to-dusk monitoring, and set a new benchmark for commercial imaging performance. Legion satellites are already supporting high-priority missions for customers around the world, delivering the scale, accuracy, and reliability required for operational missions.

With Legion, Vantor’s constellation can collect over 3.5 million square kilometers of highly accurate 30 cm-class imagery daily and revisit the same location on Earth up to 15 times per day. The expanded fleet will further increase this collection capacity while improving revisit rates five-fold, unlocking imaging of the same location on Earth as frequently as every 15 minutes.

These capabilities enable a continuously updated, real-time view of the world in 2D and 3D—allowing customers to detect change, maintain up-to-date maps, track activity, and predict emerging threats at machine speed.

Vantor expects to bring the first Pulse satellites online as soon as 2027, followed by the first two Vantage satellites as soon as 2029.

“Vantage and Pulse usher in a new era of space-based intelligence—it’s the first time that governments and businesses can get both detailed imaging and real-time monitoring from a single commercial system,” said Dan Smoot, Vantor CEO. “That fundamentally changes how intelligence is generated and used. Instead of choosing between accuracy and speed, customers can seamlessly collect, fuse, and deploy our multi-class intelligence within their sovereign systems, turning space-based data into a real-time operational capability.”

On March 25, Satellogic, Inc. announced that Vice Admiral (VADM) Frank D. Whitworth III, USN (Ret.) has joined the company as a strategic advisor.

VADM Whitworth brings decades of leadership across the U.S. defense and intelligence communities. Most recently, he served as the eighth director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) from June 2022 until his retirement in late 2025, where he led the delivery of geospatial intelligence to support national security operations worldwide. Notably, he oversaw the maturation of NGA Maven, the Department of Defense’s primary initiative for operationalizing AI and Machine Learning, transitioning the program from an experimental framework into a critical operational capability that significantly increased the speed and scale of intelligence analysis.

In his role as strategic advisor, VADM Whitworth will advise Satellogic on strategic engagement with global customers, the development of the company’s product and technology roadmap, and the integration of high-frequency Earth observation into modern intelligence architectures.

His appointment comes as Satellogic expands its capabilities in persistent Earth observation and deepens its engagement with defense and intelligence customers globally.
