On May 12, iDirect Government (iDirectGov), a provider of satellite communications to the military and government, announced the release of the 450 Rackmount (RM) software-defined modem (SDM) that delivers resilient and secure connectivity across theatres, airspace and all mission phases.

The 450RM operates on iDirectGov’s Evolution Defense, Viasat GX, SES Flex and DVB-S2X networks, as well as the military-standard 188/165B Enhanced Bandwidth Efficient Modem (EBEM). It supports operations across geostationary (GEO), highly elliptical (HEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations, while maintaining the highest security standards.

Designed for space-constricted environments, the half-rack unit allows two 450RMs to be mounted side-by-side in the rack, minimizing rack space requirements while providing a protected, durable form factor.

“The 450RM is resilient, secure and flexible to suit our troops’ satellite communications at the tactical edge,” said Tim Winter, iDirectGov president. “Its multi-technology architecture delivers optimized performance and efficient operations.”

The 450RM is powered by the 4‑Series SDM architecture, which integrates iDirectGov’s Communication Signal Interference Removal (CSIR) technology and a Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS)-140-3 Level 3 approved Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Cryptographic engine for secure, resilient communications. This architecture enables a TRANSEC‑compliant network design that exceeds U.S. government standards and delivers high‑quality voice, video and data across contested environments.

On April 30, SNC announced that Vindlér 2.0, its small satellite constellation launched in March 2026, is demonstrating strong on-orbit performance and delivering early mission success. The launch marks SNC’s second major investment in expanding its Vindlér architecture, transitioning from microsatellites to significantly more capable small satellites to increase radio frequency (RF) data tracking capability and bandwidth in low-Earth orbit (LEO).

Vindlér detects and geo-locates targeted RF emissions, enabling operators to identify and track items of interest for enhanced situational awareness and decision making in complex environments. The technology is specifically designed to address a growing national security and commercial need for timely, precise RF data.

In partnership with Muon Space, SNC launched three satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base on SpaceX’s Transporter-16 rideshare mission last month. SNC continued working closely with the space systems provider to conduct satellite tracking, initiate orbital maneuvering and confirm full payload aliveness within 30 days of launch. SNC also confirmed it has successfully tasked all payload collections and begun data delivery—continuing the company’s long-established leadership in providing digital RF solutions and data streaming directly to the warfighter.

“We are excited that our Vindlér 2.0 design is already proving to be successful,” said Lisa Godenick, senior vice president of strategy at SNC. “This architecture enables the military to receive critical data from space within minutes, anywhere around the world. At a time where speed is relevance and information is dominance, SNC is continuously investing in ways to improve the quality and speed of our data.”

Leveraging a more than 60-year legacy of RF, electronic warfare systems and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance solutions, SNC’s Vindlér technology can simultaneously detect a wide range of emitters from VHF to Ka-band with high accuracy and throughputs rivaling or exceeding entire competitor constellations. Critical applications include GPS jamming and spoofing detection, maritime domain awareness, dark vessel tracking and more in support of national security efforts. This technology is particularly critical when evaluating operations in contested or denied access environments.

SNC is now advancing designs for future Vindlér launches, with a focus on strengthening data fidelity, accuracy and mission resilience. Over the next several years, the company plans to increase the constellation to more than 20 satellites, all of which will collect additional RF bands and provide multiple revisits throughout the day.

On March 23, Contrivian announced that it has launched Contrivian Constellation, an industry-first unified multi-constellation connectivity solution that operates multiple Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks as a single service. Customers consume Constellation as one service with one data plan, one IP address, one contract, and one support model.

Contrivian Constellation dynamically orchestrates traffic across Starlink, Amazon Leo, and other satellite systems in real time, operating as a unified connectivity layer across multiple satellite networks. Constellation ensures continuous connectivity even during network congestion, degradation, or full network outages. It is powered by proprietary software that eliminates both single-constellation dependency and multi-provider operational complexity.

On March 24, the National Security Agency (NSA) joined the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD’s ACSC) in collaboration with the Australian Space Agency and others in releasing the Cybersecurity Information Sheet (CSI), “Securing space: Cyber security for low earth orbit satellite communications.”

The report highlights high-level cybersecurity risks and mitigation strategies for users of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication (SATCOM) systems. The risks and mitigations are detailed through the lens of the space segment comprising the satellites themselves; the ground segment encompassing satellite control centers, ground stations, gateways, and user terminals; the user segment that includes end-user devices, applications, and associated interfaces that connect to LEO SATCOM services; and the communication links and broader supply chain for LEO SATCOM systems.

The CSI suggests numerous mitigation strategies for the space segment and legacy space equipment, including implementing tailored security measures, and using frequency-hopping signals, redundant communication paths, and anti-jam antennas. For the ground segment, continuous monitoring and anomaly detection are essential. The user segment should focus on strengthening endpoint security and enforcing secure access practices.

The report also provides frameworks for maintaining the resilience of critical networks, while offering valuable insights and guidelines for users to understand their roles and responsibilities in securing LEO SATCOM systems.

LEO SATCOM systems improve network resilience and enable emergency communications across both government and private sectors; however, as LEO satellite constellations grow, the attack surface open to adversaries increases, significantly increasing the risk to the system if the correct cybersecurity measures are not applied.

In LEO SATCOM networks, Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability — known as the CIA triad — are critical to maintaining secure and reliable operations. LEO SATCOM systems face unique challenges due to their distributed architecture and limited physical access to space-based assets. They also rely on radio frequency links that are susceptible to jamming, spoofing, and interception.

Organizations that use LEO SATCOM services are encouraged to review this guidance and adopt the outlined cybersecurity mitigations.

Other agencies co-sealing this CSI are the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (Cyber Centre), New Zealand National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC-NZ), and Australian Space Agency.

SD Government (SDG), the division of Gogo providing satellite communications to global governments, announced on October 27 that it has received a five-year federal contract to deliver multi-band, multi-orbit airborne global satellite communications to a U.S. government agency. The new agreement, initially valued at USD$3 million, is a follow-on from Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III activity originally undertaken by SDG, prior to the merger with Gogo.

Awarded as a sole-source contract, the agreement will see the agency consolidate all aero communications across its fleet to this single contract over the next five years. With the consolidation of multiple contracts into a single contract, procurement time and complexity are dramatically reduced. In addition, the agreement allows users to focus resources on the mission rather than managing diverse contracts and vendors.

This is the first SDG government contract to optimize the company’s integrated multi-orbit, multi-band, multi-network capabilities. The deal also includes provision for the government to add new technology and services as they become available over the life of the contract.

The agency’s missions demand consistent, reliable high-bandwidth satellite connections in every theatre of operations globally, as well as the highest encryption levels for secure communication and data transfer. SDG’s deep experience in the government and defense markets, combined with its ability to deliver 24/7/365 expert customer support, will ensure the customer retains consistent critical mission connectivity.

As the contract’s full scope is realized, it will employ Gogo’s air-to-ground networks, low-Earth orbit (LEO), medium-Earth orbit (MEO), high-Earth orbit (HEO) and geostationary orbit (GEO) constellations for Ku- and Ka-band connectivity as required.

On October 13, Momentus Inc. announced a three-year reciprocal services agreement with Solstar Space. The agreement is designed to utilize the respective strengths, products and services of each company to deliver comprehensive low Earth orbit (LEO) space capabilities to address a broad range of commercial, government and space agency requirements.

Solstar provides space-based inter-satellite data relay communications, space-to-ground and local area Wi-Fi systems and services to enhance on-orbit operations. The combined offerings include Solstar Deke Narrowband Space Communicators and Slayton Wideband Space Communicators, Solstar Space Walker Wi-Fi and Solstar Space Airtime and Data Services and Momentus logistics, and deployment services and ongoing integration of Solstar communications solutions aboard one or more Momentus Orbital Service Vehicle(s).

Founder and CEO of Solstar Space Brian Barnett said, “In-space communications have been severely limited by crucial missing pieces. Outdated space comms approaches originating in the 1960s oftentimes leave space assets disconnected. Solstar is filling those space communications gaps just as Momentus is filling gaps for spacecraft and payload deployment and in-space servicing. Together we are removing roadblocks to advancing space operations.”

“The demand for reliable space connectivity is growing exponentially. Quantum Space announced on September 22 the acquisition of Phase Four’s multimode propulsion assets, a breakthrough technology that allows a single system to operate in both chemical (high thrust) and electric (high efficiency) modes. This strategic acquisition, which also includes a state-of-the-art integration and test facility in Los Angeles, strengthens Quantum Space’s ability to deliver highly maneuverable, persistent, and cost-efficient platforms for its national security, civil, and commercial customers, enabling missions from low-Earth orbit (LEO) to geostationary orbit (GEO) and cislunar space.

Parsons collaborated with Globalstar to validate its software-defined communications platform under real-world operating conditions, following earlier prototype testing in the continental U.S. The system leverages Globalstar’s LEO satellite constellation to deliver fast and reliable communications worldwide, particularly in areas where traditional infrastructure is compromised.
