The 450RM operates on iDirectGov’s Evolution Defense, Viasat GX, SES Flex and DVB-S2X networks, as well as the military-standard 188/165B Enhanced Bandwidth Efficient Modem (EBEM). It supports operations across geostationary (GEO), highly elliptical (HEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations, while maintaining the highest security standards.

Designed for space-constricted environments, the half-rack unit allows two 450RMs to be mounted side-by-side in the rack, minimizing rack space requirements while providing a protected, durable form factor.

Previously vice president of global accounts and global government and defense at ST Engineering iDirect, the parent company of iDirect Government, Winter managed its strategic global account engagements and captured pursuits for international defense opportunities. Prior to joining ST Engineering iDirect, Winter managed businesses across the defense industry at L-3 Communications and Northrop Grumman.

Before transitioning to industry, Winter flew P-3 Orion aircraft as a Naval Flight Officer on active duty for eight years. He continued his service in the United States Navy Reserves, flying P-3 aircraft and the BAMS-D UAV through 2022. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of commander in 2022. Winter is a Naval Academy graduate and has a master’s degree in business administration from Georgetown University.

Since 2015, Aronoff has been a director on the board of Draper Laboratory, Inc., which has annual revenues of $625 million. Aronoff is a trustee on the University of Vermont Board, on the board of directors of Combined Jewish Philanthropies, and a member of the Global Cyber Institute Advisory Board.

Kale brings a distinctive and impressive background in business growth and financial results to iDirectGov’s board, having served in a variety of leadership positions, most recently as sector president of the $800 million acquisition and divestiture (A&D) company Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions (CAES). At Cobham, she contributed to double digit growth and led the largest portfolio in the business. She is experienced in managing a company operating under U.S. government Foreign Ownership, Control or Influence (FOCI) mitigation agreement, and has built strong relationships at the Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency at various levels. She has led large and complex portfolios and has served in leadership roles at Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems.

Herbets’ experience includes serving as chairman and outside director of companies operating under U.S. government FOCI mitigation agreements. In all cases, he actively provides advice and guidance on all subjects to senior management as well as establishes and manages corporate governance. He has worked with Thales Defense & Security, Inc., Photonis Defense, Inc., Orolia Defense & Security and Wireless Telecom Group. He serves as a member of the advisory councils of Lehigh University Engineering College and its Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He is a retired Army veteran who has served as captain with the U.S. Army Signal Corps.

To address vulnerabilities in satellite modems, SHIELD provides periodic IA security updates for the 9-Series modems. These remote-side packages are created using the same capability that the Defense Information Systems Agency’s (DISA’s) Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) recognizes. When installed, SHIELD addresses vulnerabilities based on the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) and Nessus ID database on the satellite modem and delivers IA posture across the SATCOM network.

“Our customers are becoming more proactive and are seeking ways to reinforce defenses before problems occur, and we are moving forward with our customers to secure our solutions with our specialized product enhancements,” said John Ratigan, president of iDirectGov.

CSIR excision technology effectively mitigates a wide range of interferers, from carrier waves to multiple strong interferers, without requiring any prior information on them. CSIR can locate fast-moving and intermittent interference and restore the quality of the original signal, without requiring additional hardware. This helps to combat adversaries who are increasing their implementation of signal intelligence (SIGNET) to attack military and government spectrum use by jamming transmissions intended for radio communications, radar and various operations.

“Safeguarding critical communications signals is important, and any satellite modem attempting to operate in a congested environment, especially where adversaries may be intentionally jamming signals, can benefit from CSIR,” said Ratigan. “Whether attacks are intentional or unintentional, the CSIR interference mitigation is a core feature of the Evolution system to ensure holistic communication integrity and availability.”

“Implementing a Defense-in-Depth approach allows defense, homeland security, first responders and other government users to have reliable and secure communications to support their critical missions. iDirectGov’s approach to SATCOM cybersecurity provides the means to plan, detect, locate, remove, report and deploy mitigation to signal interference,” Ratigan added.

This acquisition was carried out by way of a merger through a newly-incorporated special purpose vehicle, Intrepid Merger Sub, Inc. and Glowlink, with Glowlink being the surviving entity.

The aggregate purchase consideration was US$20m (approximately S$28m) on a cash-free and debt-free basis plus employment based retention payment of up to US$5m (approximately S$6.9m) subject to fulfilment of certain conditions.

Based in Mountain View, CA, U.S., Glowlink delivers innovative solutions that mitigate satellite interferences and improve the quality of satellite communications (satcom). Its satellite network management solutions are able to detect and remove satellite signal interferences in an increasingly dense satellite space. As more satellites are launched in the coming years to meet the exponentially growing demand for connectivity in smart cities, there will be a significant increase in demand for anti-jam capabilities. Glowlink’s products span carrier and spectrum monitoring, interference detection and mitigation, geolocation, and satellite capacity planning which will augment iDirectGov’s advanced bandwidth-efficient, scalable and highly secure satellite solutions.

“This acquisition builds off the strengths of both teams to expand our satcom offerings with technology tailored to protect mission-critical communications, especially in an increasingly dense signal environment with the advent of many small satellites and 5G. The complementary product suite provides immediate benefit to iDirectGov’s user community as it enhances product resilience against signal interference,” said Ravinder Singh, president of electronics sector, ST Engineering.

Radio frequency interference in satcom is a growing concern for military and commercial users alike. Glowlink’s patented Communication Signal Interference Removal (CSIR) algorithm provides real-time isolation and removal of satellite interferences. It delivers an effective and robust solution that does not require additional bandwidth compared to existing technologies, which helps customers save costs while overcoming interference threats.
