The collaboration has roots in the Army’s Ivy Sting exercises, which validate emerging NGC2 capabilities under operational conditions. In this series, applications like LMI’s SHEPRD are hosted in the NGC2 ecosystem, enabled by Lattice Mesh, and tested in field exercises alongside active Army units.

During Ivy Sting 4, LMI rapidly modified and deployed SHEPRD at IL6 – the highest level of authorization for cloud systems handling Secret classified data – in a matter of weeks, a process that would traditionally take months or longer. That acceleration was made possible through close, iterative collaboration between LMI, Anduril, and the Army, with all three focused on mission outcomes over ownership.

The result was a fundamentally different development cycle, where capabilities could be fielded, evaluated, and refined in near real time. Building on that success, LMI and Anduril now embark on a Rapid Development Pilot to extend this model, delivering additional soldier-centric applications that address real operational challenges faced by warfighters, LMI said.

“The promise of NGC2 is a virtual arsenal of built-for-combat apps that are accessible to any and all units as needed, and that’s compelling on its own,” said SHEPRD Platform Lead Allen Rivers. “But we’ve also shown that you can deliver these solutions securely, as they’re needed, with an incredibly short turnover between ideation, production, and deployment. That combination of pace and availability is a game changer.”

The C2 system will power the Soldier-Borne Mission Command Architecture (SBMC-A) program, which will provide U.S. warfighters with a futuristic mixed-reality capability that overlays real-time battlefield intelligence directly into a soldier’s field of view. Advanced headsets will display digital information on top of their real-world view during live combat missions and training. This system requires detailed, accurate and up-to-date 3D maps to serve as the spatial foundation for intelligence flowing into the system.

SBMC-A isn’t a set of goggles—it’s a software, network, and integration layer that turns every soldier into a node in the C2 network. Legacy mission command systems built around maps and radios can’t keep up with the speed and complexity of modern battlefields. By integrating Maxar’s geospatial intelligence into Anduril’s Lattice AI-powered software, SBMC-A gives soldiers accurate, real-time awareness of terrain and threats—turning data into actionable insight that strengthens survivability and accelerates decision making in contested environments.

Maxar will deliver this foundation through a software-enabled solution that Anduril integrates into its Lattice software, leveraging Maxar’s 3D operational terrain—a high-fidelity digital representation of the physical world. Maxar’s automated 3D production software will ensure terrain data is refreshed within hours of collecting new satellite images, keeping the 3D foundation aligned with ground truth in live combat operations and training missions.

Through this contract, Maxar and Anduril will deliver a working prototype of the 3D foundation to the U.S. Army, with a focus on 14 initial locations of interest. The partners will also advance the solution toward full operational capability. The partnership builds on Maxar’s existing support of the Army’s One World Terrain program, for which the company has been providing 3D mapping data since 2019.

Steckman has been named president and chief business officer. In this expanded role, he will be responsible for leading many of the company’s core internal functions, including oversight of corporate operations, executive operations, divisional activities, business performance, and revenue generation.

The partnership combines Impulse Space’s expertise in highly maneuverable, high-energy spacecraft with Anduril’s core competencies in mission autonomy, edge processing, infrared imaging, command and control, and other autonomous technologies. Under the partnership, Impulse will provide its highly-maneuverable Mira vehicle to Anduril, allowing the two companies to move rapidly in pursuit of complex national security missions. Impulse Space will also onboard Mira into Lattice, Anduril’s AI-enabled software platform, to enable autonomous monitoring and mission management. Lattice will allow a single operator to control, task, and maneuver multiple spacecraft simultaneously, accelerating in-space mobility for national security customers and enhancing responsiveness in increasingly contested orbital environments, including geostationary Earth orbit (GEO).

As a mission systems integrator, Anduril will integrate its own payloads and other industry partner systems onto Impulse’s Mira spacecraft to support national security mission requirements. Together, Anduril and Impulse will merge best-of-breed technologies from across the commercial and defense industrial base to rapidly deliver integrated, impactful, and operational systems for complex missions including Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO), Space Control, and other Space Domain Awareness (SDA) applications in high-energy orbits.

“In-space mobility is incredibly important for a range of national security space missions, including space domain awareness and dynamic space operations,” said Gokul Subramanian, Anduril’s SVP of Space and Engineering. “By combining Impulse Space’s advancements in propulsion and on-demand maneuverability with Anduril’s Lattice software platform and a range of missionized, software-defined payloads, the partnership will bring agility and next-generation capability to some of the most critical missions that the DoD and IC face in the space domain.”

With Ghost, Anduril will support the AFWERX mission to transform technology to meet rapidly evolving threats around the world. Through these efforts, Airmen will be able to modify and integrate government software with Ghost’s open architecture autonomy stack. This enables rapid iteration to align with commander’s intent and shifting battlefield dynamics.

Ghost leverages Anduril’s Lattice software platform to automate mission planning, airspace management, and flight operations to reduce the cognitive load and training burden for operators. The Ghost platform adapts to user needs with a flexible design that allows operators to integrate sensors, communications, navigation, and other modular mission payloads across generic interfaces.

This announcement comes after Anduril unveiled the newest modular Ghost variant, Ghost-X, which incorporates operational feedback from over 1,000 Ghost flight hours with a wide range of customers and across diverse environments, including multiple combat theaters. Ghost-X features enhanced flight performance, modular multi-payload carriage, and greater resilience in challenging operational environments.

In this partnership with NNSS, Anduril will utilize land and airspace within the NNSS for the majority of Anduril R&D and testing. Testing at NNSS, which began in February, complements Anduril’s existing testing operations at the Capistrano Test Site (CTS) and the Apple Valley Test Site.

Operating at NNSS will allow Anduril to test a wider variety of technology capabilities. With a larger and more permissive airspace, Anduril will be able to test capabilities including large unmanned aircraft, explosive and restricted payloads, electronic warfare platforms and classified programs.

Beyond testing operations, Anduril is investing its own resources into NNSS to improve the test site infrastructure and capabilities of the range as well as revitalizing test areas and facilities that were previously unused. Anduril’s partnership with NNSS has also increased manpower support requirements, bringing new high-paid union jobs to the Silver State. These investments will benefit both Anduril’s test capabilities as well as NNSS’s other national security partners from other NNSA laboratories, the Defense Department and other privately-owned entities.

NNSS’ proximity to Anduril’s Orange County headquarters and manufacturing facilities will also facilitate the rapid development cycles that have been crucial to Anduril’s success thus far. NNSS is close enough that new assets can be driven to the site at short notice.

“Moving into NNSS is a milestone for the company,” said Matt Grimm, Chief Operating Officer at Anduril. “Anduril’s rapid and continuous testing at CTS has been a vital element of our ability to move incredibly fast, and deliver capability quickly to our customers. Our partnership with NNSS will allow us to work and deliver on even bigger and more complex systems without sacrificing development time.”

“This partnership between the NNSS and Anduril is one of many upcoming collaborations with private companies actively engaged in today’s and tomorrow’s national security work,” said MSTS President Mark W. NNSS has a rich history of military technology development and was the U.S. government’s primary nuclear testing location from 1951–1992. Since then, NNSS has served as a preferred location for experiments supporting the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)‘s nuclear weapons Stockpile Stewardship Programs, and has hosted a variety of other vital programs for federal agencies.
