As Founder and CEO of BlueHalo, he led the company’s transformation into a multi-domain defense technology provider by combining internal innovation and organic growth with targeted acquisitions. This culminated in the company’s $4.1 billion acquisition by AeroVironment in 2024.

His appointment complements LeoLabs’ existing board, which includes leaders across national security, policy, and technology. Under the contract, the UK Space Agency will gain access to Raytheon UK’s NORSSTrack software, which enhances orbital analysis and operational responsiveness by mapping and tracking satellites, monitoring potential collisions and debris, assessing re-entries and providing critical data for decision-making.

The analysts will be based at a National Space Operations Centre facility at Royal Air Force Base High Wycombe, delivering an analysis and response capability that underpins the UK’s growing leadership in space operations.

The prototype will test applications in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), data fusion and space cybersecurity. AxDCU-1 is part of Axiom Space’s ongoing work to develop era-defining space infrastructure.

Red Hat Device Edge combines an enterprise-ready and supported distribution of the Red Hat-led open source community project MicroShift, a lightweight Kubernetes distribution derived from the edge capabilities of Red Hat OpenShift, along with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. Red Hat Device Edge will enable Axiom Space to host hybrid cloud applications and cloud-native workloads on-orbit.

Axiom Space’s ODCs are designed to bring tangible benefits to humanity on Earth and reduce delays traditionally associated with orbital data processing and analysis. By utilizing Earth-independent cloud storage and edge processing infrastructure, Axiom Space ODCs will enable data to be processed closer to its source, spacecraft or satellites, bypassing the need for terrestrial-based data centers. This architecture alleviates reliance on costly, slow, intermittent or contested network connections, creating more secure and quicker decision-making in space.

The goal is to allow Axiom Space and its partners to have access to real-time processing capabilities, laying the foundation for increased reliability and improved space cybersecurity with extensive applications. Use cases for ODCs include but are not limited to supporting Earth observation satellites with in-space and lower latency data storage and processing, AI/ML training on-orbit, multi-factor authentication and cyber intrusion detection and response, supervised autonomy, in-situ space weather analytics and off-planet backup & disaster recovery for critical infrastructure on Earth.

The 46,000-square-foot secure facility expands FTI’s current office footprint in Colorado Springs and will provide the Department of Defense and its mission partners with a Center of Excellence to foster collaboration and knowledge transfer in the space operations domain. Customers and partners will be supported by FTI’s deep mission data expertise, access to FTI’s vast library of operational technologies, and highly secure infrastructure for developing solutions enabling timely and actionable understanding of individual and joint space-related operational environments.

The FTI ORBIT Center is expected to begin operations by December 31, 2024.

Primary Challenge & Objective: There is a vast region of space that begins at Geosynchronous Orbit (GEO) and extends out to the Earth-Moon Lagrange point on the far side of the Moon (L2).

Commonly referred to as xGEO (beyond GEO), this region will experience a rapid influx of activity from national, international, and commercial sources in this decade. As the U.S. prepares to return to the Moon, the need for responsive access to this region is absolutely necessary, or in Latin “sine qua non”. The Department of Defense (DoD) seeks commercial solutions for implementing responsive access to xGEO and demonstrating timely and precise delivery of a space vehicle (SV) to a predetermined orbit in xGEO.

Secondary Challenge & Objective: Operating vehicles and payloads in xGEO is another challenge. The communications infrastructure is sparse, the radiation environment is harsh, and gravity from the Moon and Sun have greater effects on station keeping and maneuvering. As such, the DoD further seeks technical demonstration of a suite of payloads or instruments on board the Sinequone SV in the xGEO region of space and provide the means to develop and improve procedures and best practices for operation.
