On May 18, LeoLabs, Inc. announced the appointment of defense technology leader Jonathan Moneymaker to its board of directors as chairman. On April 8, LeoLabs, provider of persistent Orbital Intelligence, announced the launch of LeoLabs Delta, its AI-powered, advanced threat detection and characterization system designed for U.S. and Allied national security missions. Delta replaces LeoLabs’ previous space domain awareness (SDA) solution, LeoGuard, by delivering more comprehensive, actionable intelligence. Built for the next era of space security, this system will enable operators to defend their assets against evolving threats with more confidence, speed, and precision.

Upward of 70,000 operational satellites are projected to be in low Earth orbit (LEO) by 2030, with a growing percentage from adversarial nations. In this environment, U.S. and Allied military space operators face more ambiguity and less time to decide how to react to emerging threats.

Delta enables critical intelligence gathering, real-time threat monitoring and asset protection. This system harnesses LeoLabs’ vertically integrated proliferated radar network and its world-leading commercial object catalog to continuously monitor mission-relevant objects, detect and characterize anomalous events, and analyze patterns of activity. It automatically translates and consolidates orbital data into actionable alerts and critical insights delivered directly to operators.

On December 9, LeoLabs, provider of persistent Orbital Intelligence, announced it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) Office of Space Commerce (OSC) and the U.S. Space Force (USSF) Joint Commercial Operations cell (JCO) to license access to the company’s Object Catalog.

The contract, awarded on 30 September 2025, marks the first time multiple agencies across the U.S. government are collaborating to utilize LeoLabs’ space surveillance data at scale to support multiple space safety and security missions to provide best value to the American taxpayer. This milestone aligns with the Presidential Executive Order (EO) on Ensuring Commercial, Cost-Effective Solutions in Federal Contracts, demonstrating the EO’s success in driving interagency adoption of innovative, efficient commercial technologies to enhance national space interests.

According to the company, LeoLabs maintains the most comprehensive commercial catalog of objects and activity in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) at nearly 25,000 resident space objects. The company currently tracks 99.3% of the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) public catalog, including 99.96% of all satellites and 98.56% of all debris. Under this contract, it will deliver its full public catalog, as well as radar observations, object state updates, and maneuver detection data, to the USSF Unified Data Library (UDL) for use by the OSC and the JCO.

The OSC will evaluate how to best integrate a fully commercial catalog into the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS). TraCSS users and development partners will now be able to understand how LeoLabs data can deliver timely and actionable alerts and insights for the space safety mission in LEO. The JCO will also receive full access to LeoLabs Object Catalog for Space Domain Awareness, building on the work LeoLabs had been doing to monitor and conduct threat assessments for adversarial spacecraft in LEO.

“We are excited to demonstrate how LeoLabs can take on critical missions that until recently were exclusively supported by the U.S. government,” said LeoLabs CEO Tony Frazier.

On September 8, Varda Space Industries, Inc., a microgravity-enabled life sciences company building hypersonic reentry vehicles and infrastructure for the orbital economy, together with LeoLabs, a mission partner for persistent Orbital Intelligence, and Anduril, a defense technology company, announced a successful joint demonstration to track, monitor, and report orbital maneuvers in advance of a hypersonic reentry.

Varda’s W-3 vehicle, which returned to Earth on May 13, 2025, performed a series of orbital maneuvers ahead of hypersonic reentry. With cues from Varda, LeoLabs’ Global Radar Network tracked the vehicle’s on-orbit maneuvers. The LeoLabs data was then integrated with Anduril’s Lattice, an AI-enabled software platform that provides resilient mesh networking and low-latency communications across a global network of sensors, to provide distributed users with real-time situational awareness of on-orbit maneuvers.

Tracking orbital maneuvers in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) is a critically important component of space domain awareness, providing early warning and attribution of potentially threatening activity. In a future experiment, the companies are exploring opportunities to expand the demonstration to use LeoLabs’ new Scout radar to detect a Varda capsule as it reenters at hypersonic speed. Scout is a containerized S-band Direct Radiating Array (DRA) radar that can be easily transported for rapid deployment to any location worldwide to detect and track launches and reentries, such as Varda’s landings in South Australia. The data will again be ingested into Anduril’s Lattice, facilitating connectivity with a range of government and defense command and control nodes.

The companies initiated the joint demonstration as an internal R&D effort, recognizing the potential of their combined technologies to support national security. Orchestrated in under a week, the effort showcases the agility of emerging and scaling space companies to rapidly identify use cases, conduct R&D, and iterate at speed.

“Regular, rigorous component and systems testing for defense modernization is incredibly important,” said Varda CEO Will Bruey. “Varda is doing that today as the lowest-cost, highest-cadence platform to fly at speeds higher than Mach 25. This is a leapfrog capability that only America has.”

Varda’s hypersonic reentry testbed utilizes a recoverable, dual-use orbital processing capsule and is the least expensive method to reproduce the most challenging hypersonic and reentry flight environments at speeds exceeding Mach 25. The hypersonic regime currently lacks a sufficient number of real-world testing environments to support the rapid test cadence required to derisk our most advanced aerospace vehicles and systems. Varda’s testbed is a turn-key option to raise TRL and iterate quickly and economically.

“This is an important step in better understanding how we can push LeoLabs technology to adjacent mission sets,” said LeoLabs CEO Tony Frazier. “Tracking the on-orbit maneuvers of Varda’s W-3 at hypersonic speed and seamlessly integrating our Orbital Intelligence data into Anduril’s Lattice represents the critical ability to provide actionable insights to decision-makers at the point of need.”

LeoLabs’ Global Radar Network supports a range of mission areas, from space domain awareness and space traffic management to emerging applications such as search and detection of foreign launches and maneuvers. By investing in next-gen mobile and modular radar technologies for rapid deployment, the company is setting the standard for how commercial innovation can support space battle management, space safety, and missile defense.

“No solution works in isolation,” said Gokul Subramanian, SVP of space and engineering at Anduril Industries. “Integrating LeoLabs’ sensor data into Lattice in less than a week is the latest example of how our interoperable, resilient, and low-latency networking and communications architecture ensures that end users always have access to the right tools, sensors, and information they need to execute their missions.”

On June 30, LeoLabs announced it has been selected for a $4M Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI) opportunity by SpaceWERX, the innovation arm of the U.S. Space Force (USSF). The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is projected to contribute up to $2M, which is matched with $2M in private capital, for a total $4M TACFI effort.

Under the TACFI, LeoLabs will develop and deploy a software upgrade for its expeditionary Scout-class radar—a new, containerized S-band Direct Radiating Array (DRA) the company announced in April—to detect and track foreign launches. LeoLabs will also create a software development plan to upgrade the radar to perform track-while-scan for highly maneuvering objects such as missiles and hypersonic glide vehicles.

Scout radars are designed for mobility, modularity, and rapid deployment and can be easily transported to any location worldwide in response to dynamic Space Domain Awareness (SDA) missions, including monitoring foreign launches. The system can be deployed solo or in dense networks depending on mission requirements.

This TACFI follows LeoLabs’ recent $60M Strategic Funding Increase (STRATFI) award by SpaceWERX to deploy a Seeker-Class Ultra High Frequency DRA radar in the Indo-Pacific region by 2027.

“Being selected for both a TACFI and a STRATFI within a short timeframe is a powerful vote of confidence in LeoLabs’ ability to deliver persistent Orbital Intelligence for the U.S., its Allies, and partners,” said LeoLabs CEO Tony Frazier. “It also reinforces the urgent need for next-generation radar systems and corresponding advanced software to meet evolving national security challenges and support rapidly evolving SDA requirements.”

On December 3, LeoLabs, provider of persistent Orbital Intelligence, announced that the Honorable Ronald Moultrie, former Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security (USD/I&S), has joined the company’s board of directors as outside director.

In this role, Moultrie will provide independent corporate oversight of LeoLabs for the purposes of maintaining the highest level of trust and confidence of the U.S. government. This appointment affirms LeoLabs commitment to U.S national security as a trusted partner for U.S. and Allied defense and intelligence space missions.

Moultrie has held leadership positions across the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC). As outside director, he will provide independent corporate oversight of LeoLabs for the purposes of maintaining the highest level of trust and confidence of the U.S. government.

Throughout his decades-long career, Moultrie has held leadership positions across the DoD and IC, including the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, the Director of Defense Intelligence in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), NSA Director of Operations, a Senior Intelligence Service officer and leader in the CIA, and an Air Force veteran.

His most recent service as the USD/I&S from 2021 to 2024, during which he directed and was accountable for the DoD’s global intelligence and security enterprise, will inform LeoLabs’ efforts to increase support of the U.S. Government’s growing Space Domain Awareness (SDA) needs as it responds to threats in space.

In addition, Moultrie’s experience supporting U.S. and Allied collaboration, information sharing, future space architecture planning, and support of public-private space partnerships will prove critical as LeoLabs continues to expand delivery of its services to Allied space commands. The company is currently supporting several commands across North America, Europe, and Asia and the U.S. Department of Defense’s SDA efforts. It is also developing next-generation radar technology that will significantly enhance its global customers’ SDA capabilities.

On February 26, Menlo Park, CA-based LeoLabs, a provider of integrated solutions that persistently monitor activity in space to reveal threats to safety and security, announced Tony Frazier has been appointed as its new chief executive officer (CEO). Frazier will lead LeoLabs as it scales to become a critical mission partner for combined military space operations and next generation space safety systems.

Frazier’s wealth of experience driving innovation at the intersection of commercial space and national security will help LeoLabs further accelerate its growth and solidify its position as an industry leader. Most recently, as the executive vice president and general manager of public sector Earth intelligence at Maxar Technologies, he led a $1B business that supported missions across the U.S. government and over 60 international customers. During his tenure at Maxar, GeoEye, and DigitalGlobe, Frazier became a trusted mission partner, won billions of dollars in new contract awards, and incubated two new businesses that were scaled above $100M.

“After my experience at Maxar, I was looking for a company bringing commercial innovation to a critical national security mission,” said Frazier. “LeoLabs is delivering incredible capabilities in the emerging markets of space situational awareness and space domain awareness. On February 5, Menlo Park, CA-based LeoLabs announced it has been selected to participate in the U.S. Space Systems Command’s Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Tools Applications and Processing (TAP) Lab Apollo Accelerator. This program enables LeoLabs to demonstrate its AI-powered solutions for combat ID and space battle management.

On December 4, LeoLabs, a commercial provider of Space Traffic Management (STM), Space Situational Awareness (SSA), and Space Domain Awareness (SDA) services, announced it signed a partnership agreement with Aalyria, the advanced software-defined and optical networking communications company.

LeoLabs and Aalyria seek to combine their complementary expertise and technologies to address space awareness challenges for complex communications networks that span land, sea, air, and space. This agreement marks the beginning of their collaboration on relevant contract opportunities, including with the United States Department of Defense.

“Communications infrastructure is critical to our daily lives and increasingly linked across multiple domains, including space,” said LeoLabs Chief Executive Officer Dan Ceperley, “That’s why we’re proud to partner with Aalyria and address the challenges faced by both commercial and government-owned communications networks. By layering our space safety services with Aalyria’s network orchestration solutions, we hope to ensure that the growing hybrid communication networks are secured in today’s complex, crowded, and contentious space domain.”

“The future of communications are dynamic, hybrid networks that can deliver high-speed, secure, and reliable connectivity anywhere and anytime,” said Chris Taylor, CEO of Aalyria. “LeoLabs and Aalyria share this vision, and we’re excited to collaborate with them to make it a reality.”

Aalyria will integrate LeoLabs’ growing commercially owned orbital database into Spacetime, Aalyria’s software platform for orchestrating networks of ground stations, aircraft, satellites, ships, and urban meshes. LeoLabs will serve as a “source of truth” for Aalyria to model the locations of objects in low Earth orbit (LEO) for mission planning and operations purposes. This is crucial for customers to maintain and secure their communications networks which may experience interference from other objects on-orbit.

By layering LeoLabs’ operational safety data and services onto Aalyria’s existing network solutions, operators will have a single point of access for real-time information and analysis for critical decision-making. This partnership serves the growing need for interoperability with legacy, hybrid space, 5G NTN and FutureG network architectures.
