On May 19, Janes announced the appointment of Randy Nixon as U.S. president, effective immediately. Nixon has been serving as interim U.S. president since February 2026.

This appointment follows a transition period during which Nixon led the U.S. business in a dual capacity alongside his role as chief customer officer. During this time, the company has seen continued progress across sales, partnerships, and regional priorities.

“Since stepping in as the interim leader, Randy has driven meaningful progress across the business while maintaining a clear focus on our customers and mission,” said Blake Bartlett, Janes chief executive officer. “His deep expertise and leadership experience position him well to continue advancing our U.S. operations.”

Nixon joined Janes as chief customer officer in September 2025, after a distinguished career in the U.S. intelligence community, including serving as director of the CIA’s Open-Source Enterprise.

“I’m excited to step into this role on a permanent basis,” said Nixon. “Having spent my career in service to the nation and relying on Janes to support my mission, I’m committed to advancing our foundational military intelligence and continuing to equip our customers with the clarity and confidence they need when it matters most.”

On May 13, SOSi and Janes announced a strategic partnership and product integration, which will be available through SOSi’s exoINSIGHT platform. The collaboration combines SOSi’s curated open-source data and real-time signals with Janes analyst-validated foundational military intelligence to enable defense and intelligence customers to quickly and confidently assess strategic influence, operational risk, and emerging threats globally through a single platform.

By combining exoINSIGHT’s corpus of more than five billion structured records concerning major great power competition environments—including China, Russia, and Iran—with Janes validated intelligence into a single domain, analysts gain access to enriched data. This will enable them to uncover military capabilities and force posture in full operational context while eliminating the friction of disconnected workflows.

“For too long, analysts have had to connect the dots across tools that weren’t built to work together,” said SOSi CEO Julian Setian. “This synergistic relationship changes that—fusing Janes validated intelligence with exoINSIGHT’s curated data to provide a unified, real-time understanding of both military capability and intent.”

exoINSIGHT is an AI-powered SaaS platform with extensive data holdings and mapped interconnections concerning priority national security data environments, including media, scientific and technical research, Defense Industrial Base information, corporate and procurement records, and biographical data. Janes contributes an unmatched, independent repository of military intelligence, spanning orders of battle, equipment, facilities, defense companies, and market forecasts, grounded in millions of rigorously validated data points and analysis.

“Janes machine-readable data easily integrates into any system or workflow. Partnering with SOSi allows us to extend our validated military intelligence into a data-rich environment,” said Blake Bartlett, Janes CEO. “By combining Janes authoritative foundational intelligence with the real-time data in SOSi’s exoINSIGHT platform, we’re bringing deeper context and, ultimately, decision advantage to our customers’ critical missions.”

Leveraging exoINSIGHT’s advanced analytics—including translation, visualization, and narrative tracking—analysts can track how information evolves and spreads, identify hidden relationships between entities, and generate intelligence on adversary technologies, networks, and supply chains beyond what commercial aggregators provide., the companies said.

On March 31, Seerist and Janes announced a strategic partnership and product integration. The collaboration bridges the gap between real-time indicators and warnings and assured defense data, providing defense and intelligence communities with a unified, “single-pane” mission workflow.

For decades, government agencies and prime contractors have operated publicly available information and structured military intelligence tools separately. This fragmentation often results in workflow friction, slower response times, and incomplete context regarding global threats. By fusing Seerist’s AI-driven forecasting and real-time alerting with Janes foundational data on military units, equipment, and orders of battle, the two companies are delivering a first-of-its-kind integrated solution.

“Defense and intelligence organizations need faster, accurate, and more integrated insight into global security developments,” said John Goolgasian, president of Seerist Federal. “By combining Seerist’s AI-driven geopolitical risk intelligence with Janes validated defense data, we are enabling analysts and decision-makers to move from detection to force understanding in a single workflow. This partnership represents a major step toward delivering a unified intelligence platform for government and defense customers.”

“By integrating Janes validated intelligence directly into the Seerist platform, analysts gain a seamless new way to access the data they trust, when they most need it,” said Blake Bartlett, Janes chief executive officer.

The joint offering is specifically designed for the U.S. Department of Defense and Intelligence Community, European Ministries of Defense, NATO, and Tier-1/Tier-2 federal systems integrators. The integration enables faster sensemaking and higher-confidence reporting for missions ranging from Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance to scenario-based forecasting.

On October 29, IBM announced the general availability of the IBM Defense Model, a purpose-built AI model designed to deliver reliable intelligence for defense and national security. Developed together with Janes, a leading provider of open-source defense intelligence, the IBM Defense Model combines IBM’s enterprise-grade AI technology with Janes domain-specific data to empower agencies to make decisions with speed, precision and confidence in secured, mission-critical environments.

Unlike general-purpose large language models, the IBM Defense Model is optimized for defense-specific tasks and deployable in air-gapped, classified, and edge settings. The model aligns with IBM’s focus on smaller fit-for-purpose, open-source AI models and datasets – developed and fine-tuned for specific domains and use cases – that can deliver exceptional value and drive innovation. Built on IBM’s Granite foundation models and delivered via IBM watsonx.ai, the solution supports planning, reporting, and strategy.

“Defense organizations need AI they can trust – solutions that deliver accurate insights without compromising security or ethics,” said Vanessa Hunt, general manager, technology, U.S. federal market for IBM. “The IBM Defense Model provides a fit-for-purpose capability that accelerates mission planning and enhances operational readiness, while reinforcing IBM’s commitment to responsible AI.”

“Our collaboration with IBM brings together Janes trusted defense intelligence and IBM’s advanced AI capabilities,” said Blake Bartlett, CEO for Janes. “This model helps to ensure defense organizations can access timely, relevant insights in secured environments, helping them make informed decisions with confidence.”
